Safety and Online Casinos

Most people get nervous the first time they transfer money through the Internet to gamble at an online casino. It requires sending very sensitive information such as credit card numbers and bank account information through cyberspace and for some, this is just too abstract. Typing in credit card numbers and clicking on send can feel like dropping money down a dark abyss at the bottom of which, faceless, thieving charlatans greedily await the opportunity to steal and share your information with others.

Fortunately, gambling online is nothing like this. In the U.S., there are well over 1,700 gambling websites currently available and the great majority of these are safe and will treat players honestly and ethically. These sites are in the business of making money and the only way they will accomplish this goal is if players return to their sites and new players are constantly attracted to playing at their sites. The best way for them to accomplish this is to run their business in a fair, user-friendly fashion that not only keeps people coming back but also inspires players to tell their friends to use that particular casino. In other words, the system is set up to positively reinforce honest, fair business.

Regardless of the system, rogue casinos are out there and you should be aware. These casinos are dishonest and deceptive and they should be avoided at all costs. A rogue casino will share your information with spammers, use-cheating software that will make it impossible to win, procrastinate giving payouts and even vanish from cyberspace once they have received deposits. Sounds awful, huh?

Well, there are easy ways to avoid these sites. The most obvious way is to do your research. There are many online lists of rogue sites and these lists are updated very frequently. Bare in mind that when people are cheated out of money, they are generally angered to the point of taking action. This is why these lists are kept so current. Rogue victims usually want to make sure that the sites are put out of business immediately.

Another thing you can do is make certain that a site is Interactive Gaming Council (IGC) approved before giving them access to your money. The IGC is made up of over 80 businesses across the globe and it exists to insure personal data protection, honesty in advertising, timely and secure fund transfers and accountability to players. If a site bears this approval, you are good to go. Another quick thing you can do is see how long a site has been in business. Online casinos that have been operating for over five years are usually reputable and honest.

Overall, online gambling is very safe in the U.S. A little time and research is all it takes to avoid a negative online casino experience.
