Fax Server Software

Author: Eric Morris

Companies and organizations are always looking for innovative means to eliminate the cost of their communication. Utilizing fax server software is the answer to send and receive faxes via the network. Fax server software allows one to send and receive faxes, fax to e-mail and e-mail to fax, directly from a computer. An Internet connection, network infrastructure and e-mails are utilized for receiving and sending faxes.

The benefits of fax server software are it is easily installed, integrates with e-mail servers, and reduces the cost of fax equipment, toner and paper. Fax server software allows the modem to operate as a receiving and sending fax machine. Some software also stores faxes once the configuration is done and the data archive function is selected. Some fax server software needs a separate telephone line, and some do not. Most fax server software has the features of printing all the incoming faxes automatically. Fax server software generally works on Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 98. Some fax server software can be used directly with a modem, without using an Internet connection.

While purchasing fax server software, there are many aspects to be considered. First, a vendor should provide an expert technical support. Second, software should have an easy-to-use program that reduces the necessity for training and troubleshooting. Third, fax server software should merge with other companies systems for easy communication. Fax server software should back up a wide range of data formats, including files from Microsoft Office, Portable Document Format (PDF), Rich Text Format (RTF), Word Perfect Office, Post Script and PTF. Also, the software should have a function to store faxes. Fax server software should have features like an address book, fax preview and browser-based Web client for sending and receiving faxes virtually any place worldwide.
