Space; Our New Oceans

Author: Lance Winslow

Is space mankind's new ocean? Will mankind set out and set sail to discover new worlds in space? We'll human history repeat just like in the days of the famous explorers of the oceans? It is mankind's nature to explore and seek out new places and as Gene Roddenberry says; To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone before!

Many science fiction authors have discussed the exploration of space both in our own solar system and far beyond and it is inevitable that mankind will venture into space and seek out new worlds just as the explorers did centuries before. Names like Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus and Cortez. But even before they had explore the oceans of Earth previous civilizations had as well such as the treasure fleet and Zheng during the Ming Chinese Dynasty.

There have also been tales of Vikings crossing the ocean and there is some proof to these stories in the genetic record of the American Indians. Then of course Plato had talked about Atlantis and perhaps there is something to that is well. Who is to say that all these civilizations did not also conquer the seas? For it is man's genetic nature and predisposition to explore.

Of course space; Man's Final Frontier is much larger than any ocean and space and our universe make Earth look like a grain of sand on an endless beach. Who knows what worlds we will find and inhabitants on those worlds? As the Drake equation predicts there will be intelligent life out there for us to meet. Space may just be our new oceans and a new chance for mankind to expand his realm. Please consider this in 2006.
