Defensive Driving School - What's in it for You?

Author: Matthew Henderson

Defensive driving school can benefit you whether you're a teenager learning to drive or an adult needing to have a ticket removed, fines and/or driving points reduced or an auto insurance discount. Most people who have never driven, young and old just simply don't know where to start.

For teeneagers, many States require that you take a driver's education course and that you possess a Learner's Permit for a specified period of time. The criteria is generally the same for a person who has never driven and is over the age of 30 and a teenager who is driving for the first time as well.

Obviously, you can not learn to drive a car online, however you can learn many of the laws and rules of the road and take practice tests so you can feel more comfortable in a classroom situation when you take the driving portion of your defensive driver training.

Make sure your defensive driving instructor is licensed and well trained. If you aren't comfortable with your instructor, say so! This is your learning experience that you are paying for, you want to acquire your driving knowledge in the most pleasant way possible.

Many insurance companies offer free defensive driving classes to anyone over 65 that is under their coverage that would like to update their driving skills. Ask if your insurance company offers this service.

Defensive driving and traffic school is a real boon to your driving skills, it's a boost if you've never driven and allows you to reclaim old skills you may have let slide by the way side if you've been driving for years. Look into taking a defensive driving or traffic school class soon, your insurance rates and your driving skills will benefit!
