Automible Accident - Now What?

Author: Ryan Fyfe

Automobiles play such a major part in the american economy that it has become rediculous. Many of us cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to not have our own, or the use of let's say our parent's. With the amount of cars that are on the roads today in our countries, it's phenomenal the amount of accidents that are occuring in which we are completely oblivious.

In 2002, there was around 6,000,000 car accidents in the United States. Among those 2,900,000 resulted in injury. That number rose already by 2003 where was 6,300,000 accidents and over 3,000,000 that resulted in injuries.

Many of us are unaware of what to do if we get in a car accident which can lead to several problems down the road. You have options like consulting with an accident lawyer, but their is simple steps that can be followed to avoid heaps of confusion:

  1. Stop the car as soon as safely possible and make sure not to leave the scene of the accident.
  2. Contact the police and medical units as soon as possible as well. Generally you can just dial 911, otherwise it's always a good idea to carry the emergency numbers for the area's in which you are driving.
    • When the police arrive you want to in detail fill out the time and exactly what happened in the accident.
    • * It's generally a good idea to get the officer's name, and to take a copy of the accident report.
  3. Get as much info as possible form the other drive
    • Name
    • Address
    • Telephone Number
    • Insurance Company Information
    • Liscence plate number
  4. Collect as much information as you can from any witnesses
    • Names
    • Phone Numbers
    • Adresses
  5. Try to take pictures of the accident scene and your vehicle as well as the other parties vehicle.
  6. Contact your insurance agency.
